Spoilers : Erased (Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi)
Ever think about, if you got a lucky chance to revive your future, you would change everything? but we probably won't have a chance of revival in a life and death situation.
I recently took a serious liking towards Anime and was suggested Erased as an intriguing show to watch. The thought of thriller and mystery made me want to check out the show immediately. At least maybe an episode or two, so I began watching on the same day.
Also, before you continue reading this let me remind you in case the title wasn't clear enough I will we be talking about the show in detail and there are a lot of spoilers. I may not reveal the real deal, but knowing anything is a spoiler in this show.
The fantasy thriller has 12 episodes in the season and revolves around a 29 yr old Satoru Fujinuma who has a special capability for Revival. Each episode left me wanting for more since I am used to watching episodes that last for an hour at least. Watching a 20-minute episode wasn't just cutting out for me. The show starts with Satoru's everyday life as a pizza delivery guy stealing a few heroic moments of Revival. He can travel back in time but it's not under his control, it happens usually when someone around him is in danger, even if a stranger. Satoru finds himself in the middle of series of crimes that started dating back to his childhood in 1988. A moment of Revival he has in the next few days causes the dead of his mother . At this point, you would expect the show to turn into a crime-solving plot line with a time travel twist. I expected the show to have Fujinuma learn how to manipulate time and track the killer of his mother. But what happened really took me by surprise. The Revival still out of control takes him back in 1988 to change something that he did not understand or remember. His agenda initially is about saving his mother and clearing his name off the suspect list but there is alot more he doesnt know.
The show is not just about the death of his mother and solving the crime but also Satoru developing as a person and learning to care. His character changes remarkably from an 11 yr old kid with a 29 yr old soul to a hero who wants to save the girls that were killed during his childhood and caring for his friends. The struggle of saving Kayo Hinazuki and finding the killer for an 11 yr old is not as easy as it seems.
His friends in the past, this time around truly become his family and he saves the girls but the twist comes where the Satoru is caught by the Mr. X(since I really don't want to give away, if you have watched you know who he is) and thrown into an icy river to die also he starts to suspect that Satoru can fee the future. He does not die but for the next 20 yrs Satoru is in a coma and are hospitalized from the incident. The kid inside him does not remember the revival or any of his past, the first or the second. The last two episodes are the ones where the grown up squad comes together once again and gets the culprit caught.
The show has done a great job at animation bringing the characters to life and development at all ages with the emotional turmoil that kept them together. This time around in 2003, the new future he manages to keep everyone alive and get the killer caught.
The season 2 is as off now is not confirmed but what I would like to know is how the revival works. Can he make something better of it? He wanted to be a hero but does he become one how that the crime around him is over.
