Review:

A Wrinkle in Time was one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and it went by as if it had nothing to offer. The movie marks a new era in cinema just like Black Panther did but there the characters are balanced between people of color and otherwise. The makers have done an incredible job at making a point but in this review, I will be looking at the movie as any regular movie and concentrate on the story, direction acting, and art direction.

The film starts out with Meg Murry's everyday life in school, living with her younger adopted brother and her mother. She is bullied by a classmate because her father went missing, it has now been 4 years since the disappearance. Meg who trusts he will come back is also a little skeptical about his return and her family returning to normal.

Her younger brother Charles Wallace Murry then suddenly introduces her to Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs.Who, just like that out of the blue. They try to convince her of the truth and take her along for a trip around the universe to look for her father, played by Chris Pine.

Now the problem is, they have spent so much time showing the story, the planets, running around meeting new people, that the forgot to answer any question that might come to a viewers mind. Without being able to connect to Meg or understand why she feels out of place we are thrown into details of why she cant tesser because of her emotional imbalance.

The movie is amazing however the story in the movie not so much. They then travel to a different planet and find out where her father is, reach the evil planet survive a few attacks lose her brother and find her father.

The film seems to dismiss any emotional stress the story might create on the characters the main objective to save her father is belittled into just a step inside a hidden room and later into yelling I love you at Charles Wallace Murry.

When it comes to acting all the characters have done what they were told, to miss the story's point. If you would look at the whole picture, it has great packing. With good actors, and a bad screenplay that film does a great lot more than expected.

The bright colors, vast sceneries and design and art direction beautifully feeds in the book's imagination and helps cover up the shortage of answers. We don't know why Dr. Murry has to be missing for 4 years but the kids travel back to the exact time they left or they come back in minutes that her mother hasn't even noticed they were gone.

There was no point to Calvin O'Keefe's character, he said a few nice things to her which Charles does every day anyways, and most of the time I was distracted by the camera angle and the direction, they were always either too far away or far to close for my comfort. The most distracting was Oprah Winfrey's make up. (That's all I am going to say, rest you can see for yourself.)

Verdict: Watch it, you won't regret it if you don't though. Not missing out on much here.
